The Web-Based Wrestling Federation is a persistent, browser-based wrestling game. A unique spin on the boring old sports simulator, it offers a combination of fantasy sports simulation, an online RPG, and a comic book that presents a storyline affected by player actions within the game. The WBWF captures the color and excitement of an early-1980's wrestling promotion, but presents it with a modern edge.
The WBWF is the first fantasy wrestling game to be updated every morning, seven days a week.
The WBWF is completely free to play.
In the WBWF, 75% of the game is played as the role of a manager. As of April 24th, 2007, manager investment games and the acquisitions system are still being developed. This section will be expanded as we roll-out these features.
In the meantime, be sure to edit your wrestler's strategy, submit some Smack Talk to promote your client within the league, and set their challenges on a daily basis.
Challenges are contractually binding agreements between a manager and the WBWF Manager's Association. It enables the WBWFMA to plan the cards for that night, and project how many spectators will attend the event.
A "normal challenge" simply schedules a match for your wrestler that night.
An "enemy challenge" schedules a match for your wrestler against an enemy that night. Enemies can be set in the Allies and Enemies section of your control panel. If your wrestler has one or more enemies, their first challenge for that night must be from that group.
Right now you can enhance your wrestler's matches by making them hardcore or steel cage matches. This currently has no effect on the outcome of the matches or how the wrestlers perform, but it soon will (and this section will be updated to reflect those additions.)
Your wrestler's strategy is a selection of 20 moves from a master list of 100 moves organized within 3 categories. There is no limit on how many times you can edit your wrestler's strategy in a single day. Each category of a wrestler's strategy allows for you to configure their "approach" to that group of moves. You can choose between a "normal", "defensive", or "aggressive" approach. These settings work much like paper/rock/scissors, and determine point modifiers for each wrestler. They also act as drawbreakers to a certain extent.
It's almost more important to change your wrestler's approach settings on a daily basis than their actual move set. If your wrestler's approach to each category of moves stays the same every day - they will become predictable in the ring. Smart managers will scout for wrestlers who aren't maintained as often as they should be, giving their wrestlers an instant edge in the ring (as large as 6 points per match!)
A "move list", or "strategy guide", is the master list of 100 moves that you base your wrestler's strategy on. Point values to each move are randomized within a certain range on a nightly basis, one step before league matches are processed. The new move values are posted every update, along with the match results.
Paying attention to "shifts" in move values will help you to slowly determine a range for each move. This is referred to as "point scouting". Doing so will help you to tighten up your wrestler's strategy, thus making them perform better on a more consistent basis. Some managers even go to the extent of printing out and archiving the move values for each day. Eventually, high value moves shift entirely and you will have to re-discover them.
Posting Smack Talk is extremely important since affects your wrestler's overall impact within a league. Whether they're really nice, or they drop kick senior citizens, sounding off on a daily basis will enhance your overall experience in the WBWF.
Smack Talk "flips" at 3:00am EST every morning (-5 GMT, this is actually midnight on our server).
League matches are determined by comparing the point values for each move in the wrestler's strategy for that night. A number of other things factor into the overall result of a league match; total points scored, equipped items at the time of processing, experience modifiers, and more.
In the WBWF, the only manager that can attend a match at ringside is the one who initiates the challenge. This awards your wrestler an instant +1 to their strategy total since - whether it's for some words of wisdom, or just to grab an ankle - they've got you right there to support them.
Winning momentum in a match depends on whether or not your wrestler has taken the dominant approach to that stage of the match. This is dictated by the "approach" settings defined for each category in their strategy. Each category of moves represents a stage in the match; Basic Moves = Opening, Advanced Moves = Middle, Power Moves = Climax.
League matches are processed between midnight and 3:30am in the morning. Most leagues will have a challenge deadline of 11:45pm EST.
League Championship Title - League Championship tournaments are run every four weeks, and a League Champion will hold their title (without having to defend it) for the duration of that four weeks. You must have accumulated a minimum of 150 experience within the league to qualify as a contender.
Arena Championship Title - Arena Championship tournaments are run every two weeks, and an Arena Champion will hold their title (without having to defend it) for the duration of that two weeks. You must have accumulated a minimum of 100 experience within the league to qualify as a contender.
The contender slots for each title are organic to the league that your wrestler is in, dictated mostly by the total amount of wrestlers participating. For instance, a league with only 15 wrestlers will have substantially less contender slots than a full, 100 wrestler league. This is to mainly prevent every participant from becoming a contender in smaller leagues.
